My Story...

I was born and raised in the oil fields of West Texas. I spent most of my childhood in a small church there. In my teen years, I felt the church had left me so I left the church. I wandered for many years.

As an adult, I made some poor choices. God began using my alcoholism and the promiscuity of my life to ultimately and graciously save me. I was separated from my bride and family due to those choices and in the midst of that destruction, God chose to save my wife and then used her greatly to reveal himself to me. I never knew the real God before that. Grace was just a word until that moment. Brandie, by the grace of God, was able to see past my failure as a husband and sin as a human and preach and pray for and to my soul.

At that time I was a firefighter and though I fought and wrestled through sin God never left me. He lovingly massaged my heart of stone into a heart of flesh and by grace alone, through faith alone in Christ alone I am saved. I began to be sanctified and God began changing my affections. I went on staff part-time at the church we were attending and then eventually moved into a full-time role that transitioned me away from the fire service.

In 2013 our family was called to begin raising support and to move our family to Knoxville to attend a church planting residency with Legacy Church. After a 2-year residency and Acts 29 assessment we launched our gatherings with 17 adults and meet weekly to celebrate as lovers of Jesus.

My role at Citizensin this season is to serve as the Lead Teaching Pastor. I am looking forward to working closely with our staff and pastors to discern God's will for our church and our beautiful city. We only want what God wants and look forward to His beautiful design being revealed to us!

Brandie and I have been married since 2001 we have two great daughters, one amazingly awesome grandson and three ridiculous dogs.

My prayer for Citizens Church...

God, I ask that you would give a burning desire to preach the gospel with our lives in our everyday rhythms to every dry bone and dusty ally you place in our path.
